Softball: O’Connell 12, Good Counsel 1

Senior pitcher Tori Finucane stuck out 15, hit two home runs and drove in five runs against her former school as the Bishop O’Connell High School softball team topped host Good Counsel, 12-1, on Wednesday.

Amanda Ehlers and Jillian Ferraro each knocked in two runs for the Knights (3-0, 3-0 Washington Catholic Athletic Conference).

Finucane, a first-team 2012 All-American who has committed to the University of Missouri, has struck out 44 batters through three games so far this season. Last year she struck out a school-record 332 while walking only 22 in 161 innings on her way to a 27-1 record and a 0.09 ERA. She played for Good Counsel during her freshman and sophomore years before transferring to O’Connell.

The Knights will host St. John’s on Thursday, while the Falcons (1-3, 0-3 WCAC) will play at Sherwood on Friday.

Football: Good Counsel Takes Fourth Straight WCAC Title

Senior quarterback Brendan Marshall and receiver Kendall Fuller connected for three touchdowns and Dorian O’Daniel rushed for 144 yards to lead the Our Lady of Good Counsel High School football team to a 26-14 win over DeMatha in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference Championship Game at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis on Sunday.

The win marked the fourth consecutive year that the Falcons have won the WCAC title. They beat Gonzaga, 42-0, in last year’s championship game.

Marshall, a University of Virginia recruit, made the start after being listed as questionable during the week due to a knee injury suffered in Good Counsel’s semifinal win against St. John’s.
