Poolesville junior Chase Weaverling finished less than a half of a second ahead of Clarksburg senior William Bertrand to win the boys 5K run at the Montgomery County Cross Country Championships at Bohrer Park in Gaithersburg on Saturday.
The girls race was won by Bethesda-Chevy Chase sophomore Nora McUmber, with teammate Caroline Beakes finishing in second place. Led by their 1-2 finish the Barons took the girls team title for the second consecutive year, while defending state champion Walter Johnson had seven runners finish in the top 25 to take the boys crown.
