Billy Plante of Quince Orchard leads a contingent of five Montgomery County high school seniors who will play in the 31st Annual Brooks Robinson All-Star Game at Camden Yards following the Orioles game against the Phillies on Sunday.
Plante, who has committed to play at Towson next year, will be joined on the South team by his Quince Orchard teammate Alex Lipman, Eric Ramsey of Georgetown Prep, Sean Van Gieson of Rockville and Cody Acker of Blake.
Jeff Rabberman of Gaithersburg will be on the coaching staff for the South team.
The Maryland State Association of Baseball Coaches selected the 30 seniors who will participate in the game.
Sean Van Gieson pitched his fourth complete game of the season, striking out nine and walking none while allowing 12 hits in seven innings to lead the Rockville High School baseball team to a 5-2 win over visiting Urbana in the second round of the MPSSAA playoffs on Wednesday.
Van Gieson also collected two hits and a walk at the plate, driving in a run and scoring another for the victorious Rams.
Rockville scored all five of their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to erase a two-run deficit. Greg Brown drove in two runs for the Rams, with Tony Ortiz and David Grant also knocking in one run each.
Rockville, the number two seed in the 3A West region, will host third-seeded Linganore on Thursday at 4:00 pm.
Senior Sean Van Gieson struck out seven and allowed one hit in pitching a seven-inning shutout to lead the visiting Rockville High School baseball team to a 2-0 win over Magruder on Saturday.
Tony Ortiz had an RBI single in the second inning and Brady Petrie added an RBI fielders choice in the fifth for the Rams (9-4). Marcus Hailstock and David Grant each had two hits for Rockville.
The Rams will host Walter Johnson on Monday, while the Colonels (7-4) will visit Quince Orchard on Tuesday.
Teddy Pilarz hit a grand slam in the top of the sixth inning to lead the visiting Rams over the Rockets on Wednesday.
Pilarz had three hits and five RBI in the win for Rockville. Joe Kelly got the win, allowing six hits and one earned run while striking out four in six innings of work.
The Rams won all three games (25-22, 25-20, 25-23) over the host Titans in the season opener for both teams.
Einstein will host Walter Johnson High School (0-1) on Friday at 7 p.m.
