Boys Basketball: Einstein 56, Springbrook 55

Josh Ogburn’s long 3-pointer at the buzzer went off the glass and through the net to give the Albert Einstein High School boys basketball team a 56-55 win over visiting Springbrook on Tuesday.

Blue Devils forward Isiah Eisendorf missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 3.5 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter and Springbrook holding a 55-53 lead. In the ensuing scramble for the rebound the ball ricocheted off Eisendorf and went out of bounds, giving Einstein one last possession.

With 1.8 seconds left on the clock, Joe Bradshaw heaved a long inbounds pass to Ogburn down the left sideline about 30 feet from the basket. Ogburn turned and fired, and when the ball caromed through the rim the Einstein student section rushed the court to celebrate the upset victory.

Ogburn led all scorers with a season-high 29 points, while Bradshaw added 19 for the Titans. Junior Andrew Robinson led the Blue Devils with 15 points.

The win was the fifth in six games for Einstein (9-12), and their second in a row against Class 4A competition. They will host Blair next Tuesday in their final game of the regular season.

Springbrook (12-8) will host Gaithersburg on Friday.
