The Winston Churchill High School boys and girls lacrosse teams both met the same fate Saturday, each losing their 4A/3A semifinal matchups with Westminster in Reisterstown to miss out on a chance to appear in the state championship game for the first time.
For the girls, who lost 18-8, it was the third consecutive year in which they made it to the semifinal round. The boys, who lost 14-10, were making their first semifinal appearance since 2002.
The Westminster boys team will face undefeated South River in the state final at UMBC on Wednesday at 4:00 pm. South River was a finalist last year as well, losing to Linganore, 13-12, in the title game.
The Westminster girls will face defending champion Severna Park at 6:00 pm Wednesday, also at UMBC.

Rockville scored all five of their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to erase a two-run deficit. Greg Brown drove in two runs for the Rams, with Tony Ortiz and David Grant also knocking in one run each.
